Arsenal tasted bitter defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium and the 2-1 loss has thrown the Premier League title race wide open
Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes were dealt a gut-wrenching blow against Manchester City as Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten 2-1. This loss means City now sit just three points behind the league-leading Gunners with a game in hand.
The title race took yet another twist on Sunday as Arsenal visited the Etihad Stadium. Rayan Cherki broke the deadlock in the 16th minute but, moments later, Kai Havertz pounced on a Gianluigi Donnarumma error to level things up.
Erling Haaland was then on target in the 65th minute and the visitors had no answer, with the match ending 2-1. Arsenal remain at the top for now but City could leapfrog them with a win midweek against Burnley. What Mikel Arteta has said
“The positive thing is we have seen the level, we can cope with that, and not just that but do even better,” said Arteta after Sunday’s defeat.
“There are five games to go, but we’re going to give a real go for it. We have full belief we can do it. Today we have shown the team that we are. It’s still in our hands, and it’s there for the taking.
“We were close, not close enough. But now we have to reset. We lost an opportunity today, a big one. But there is still another five to go. There are still a lot of positives today.”
