Sergio Aguero has backed his former club Manchester City to beat Arsenal in their Premier League showdown on Sunday
Sergio Aguero has thrown his support behind Manchester City to clinch the title ahead of his former club’s pivotal fixture with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners will travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they look to extend their lead at the top of the standings.
Mikel Arteta’s side were on the receiving end of a defeat in the last meeting between the two clubs in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium last month.
Arsenal are currently six points ahead of City in the Premier League, and have played one game more, but a victory for the Gunners would dramatically improve their chances of winning the title.
Aguero spent a decade at City, netting 260 goals in 390 appearances while lifting 12 major honours, including five Premier League titles, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The 37-year-old is confident that City possess the quality to overcome Arsenal in Sunday’s showdown, and outlined his reasoning for backing his former club to claim yet another Premier League crown.
“It’s a strange game. Both coaches know each other perfectly, they know where to attack and where the opponent is weakest,” Aguero told Stake.
“Sometimes these games have very few goals, sometimes they open up and become a great spectacle for the fans.
“I think City will come out strong in the first 10-15 minutes, accelerate and take control of the ball. It could finish 2-0 or 2-1 to City.

“Hopefully City don’t suffer too much, but if it’s only a one-goal lead I think in the last minutes City will have to suffer a bit.”
“I think City will win the title. Knowing the club and Pep, I don’t think City will drop any points. In the head of City they know that at some point Arsenal can lose or draw, and that’s enough – as long as City win everything.”
City’s fixture in hand sees them take on Crystal Palace before the campaign concludes, with further matches against Burnley, Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Aston Villa still to come.
Arsenal’s remaining fixtures after facing City will see them take on Newcastle, Fulham, West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace, as well as a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
