The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) said the victims – aged between 18 months and 14 years – were killed in a “domestic disturbance” in the Cedar Grove neighbourhood. The shooting took place around 6am on Sunday CDT (12pm BST), according to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.
The suspect, an adult male, was shot dead by police.
Smith said a total of 10 people shot by the attacker. Two women have been injured after being shot in the head, according to local TV station KTBS, which reports that a young boy has sustained injuries after jumping from a roof.
Officials said they were still gathering details about the crime scene, which extended across three locations. Smith said the suspected shooter was fatally shot by police during a vehicle chase.
