Liam Rosenior has just finished his post-match press conference following Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday night.
There were mass boos around Stamford Bridge when the full-time whistle went, with Matheus Cunha’s first-half strike proving enough for the visitors. Rosenior’s side have now lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions and four Premier League games in a row.
Rosenior has just finished his post-match presser. Here is the full transcript of everything he said:

Difficult result to take?
They’ve had one shot on our goal when we’re down to 10 men off an injury and score. And then we have wave after wave of attack, crosses in the box, moments we don’t take advantage of. I think we’ve hit the woodwork four or five times. What we can’t do is get into a cycle where we feel like it’s not going to be our day or we feel sorry for ourselves because we have to keep working. We have to turn this around. But I can’t, I will never lie, I can’t speak on things that I don’t see. I saw a team that were dominant. We were dominant from the first moment of the game to the last. But we have to take care of our moments better. And that’s what’s costing us points at this moment in time.
Is there an update on Estevao Willian’s injury?
Yeah, he was devastated. He was crying at half-time. Really devastated for him. It looks like it’s his hamstring. And that’s a moment actually when he’s running through on their goal for a one-v-one and pulls his hamstring in that moment. They’re good lads, I have to say. They’re honest, they’re working hard. I don’t want them to feel like everything’s against them. And I hope Este comes back sooner rather than later.
What was behind the decision for Enzo Fernandez not to wear the captain’s armband in Reece James’ absence?
The decision is we have a leadership group. I feel like wearing the armband is an honour for this club. Enzo played like a captain today. I thought he was magnificent. He ran himself into the ground, he gave everything, he played forward, he was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. I think that shows actually where he’s been with us all this while. I’m very, very happy with his performance. I’m very, very happy with him. Even though tonight we didn’t get the result that I felt we deserved or needed.
It feels like Chelsea keep conceding basic goals…
Very frustrating. The goal today, they’ve had one shot on target in the game. I can’t remember another chance they’ve had. I could say that about Newcastle three weeks ago. I know we know what needs to improve at this club because you cannot work that hard to score a goal and the other team have one shot and score. We need to improve in that aspect if we’re going to give ourselves any chance to win a game.
Big blow in Champions League race?
It gives us a mountain to climb. It’s not insurmountable but it gives us a mountain to climb and we have to go into Brighton with an idea that we have to win that game and kick-start the rest of our season.
Fernandez injured?
I just saw him in the dressing room. I think it was his calf. I’m hoping it’s cramp. He’s getting work on it right now because we want him obviously fit for Tuesday. I think the fact that he ran himself into the ground for the club tonight and I expect nothing different from a man of his stature and his quality.
Cole Palmer said pre-match that ‘everything changes’ if Chelsea don’t get Champions League football. What are the consequences if the club do not in terms of losing players/signing players?
The honest answer is I don’t know. The honest answer is we’re still fighting and we’ll address that situation at the end of the season, whatever the situation is. In terms of the game tonight, it’s a really, really difficult one to take because people don’t want to hear me say how well we played and didn’t win the game. We’re here to win. There are many elements actually that the process of underlying things that we’re looking into that suggest that if you stay in this process we will win games of football. It doesn’t look like it at the moment but the reality is Manchester United have come in, had one shot, won a goal against 10 men and won a game 1-0 which should be pretty much impossible.
