Nigerian football legend, Henry Nwosu will be laid to rest on May 16th at his country home in Naze area of Imo State capital, Owerri, Sports247 reports.
This was confirmed by an ex-player, Monday Kalu, who is a member of the burial organising committee, saddled with the task of giving the legend a befitting funeral.

Kalu, who hinted that a night of songs will hold for the late legend on May 11th, stated in a chat with Sports247 that any contrary date earlier publicised about Nwosu’s burial should be ignored.
Kalu added, “The burial date is Saturday, May 16th, 2026, not May 12th. We do have a night of tribute tentatively scheduled for Monday, 11th at Saint Finbarr’s College, Akoka. We intend to publish the obituary by the end of April.”
Kalu’s update came in the wake of assurances by Imo State commissioner for sports, Honourable Obinna Evaristus Onyeocha (Onowu) that the government will be fully involved in the burial programme for the legend, who hailed from the state.
Onyeocha admitted in an exclusive interview with Sports247 that it promises to be a historic occasion, ahead of which he assured that the government will give a State Burial to the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner and noble son of Imo State.
“Henry Nwosu is our own, and the family came to visit me in my office to inform me about the burial plans. I’ve written to His Excellency about Nwosu’s death and we are officially aware of his burial.
“I can assure you that we are not going to leave it all to be handled by his family. That means it’s going to be a state burial and we are going to participate fully,” Honourable Onyeocha affirmed.
