Anthony Gordon is open to leaving Newcastle in the summer, opening the door to a potential blockbuster transfer to a major Premier League rival.

FootballTransfers exclusively reported Arsenal’s interest in the 25-year-old England winger, while Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also emerged as interested suitors.

Newcastle were initially thought to be ready to resist any interest in Gordon, but their stance appears to have softened, and with The Telegraph reporting that the winger is interested in exploring his options, the possibility of a deal appears more live than ever.

Gordon wants move before World Cup

Gordon has not issued a transfer demand, the report indicates, but he does want to see what type of offers emerge for him.

He believes that he has “outgrown” Newcastle and wants both a new challenge with a club playing in the Champions League, as well as a sizeable pay rise.

And this is a story that could develop rapidly. The Liverpool-born winger, who is under contract until 2030, is reportedly eager to resolve his future before the World Cup begins.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are likely to consider bids around the €92 million (£80m) mark. This is well in excess of Gordon’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €51.9m.

Newcastle have Gordon ‘frustration’

Newcastle are planning for two or three big-name departures this summer, FootballTransfers understands, due to the financial constraints on the club.

Sandro Tonali is one of those likely to be allowed to depart, with the likes of Gordon, Tino Livramento, who also interests Arsenal, and Bruno Guimaraes also serious candidates to leave. This explains why the Geordies’ stance of allowing Gordon to depart has softened somewhat.

On top of this, The Telegraph reports that the former Everton man’s form this season has caused “frustration” internally at St James’ Park. While he has been a livewire in the Champions League, his Premier League form has been poor. He has scored only three goals from open play since January 2025.

It is stressed, meanwhile, that there has been no fallout and that the player continues to show the highest levels of professionalism.

Anthony Gordon transfer analysis: Liverpool come out on top of Arsenal

Liverpool failed in a move for Gordon in 2024 that the player was reportedly “desperate” to complete, and the Anfield club are his best option this summer, according to analysis from SciSports.

Its Career Advice tool breaks down the best moves for a player based on a wide variety of metrics from development and game time to style and formation. Liverpool score 77, which is a strong mark. There is a weakness in the Reds’ playing style, but moving to Anfield would be excellent for his development, SciSports reports.

Arsenal are not as good an option, the data experts report. Mikel Arteta’s side hit a score of 67. The Gunners are also excellent for development but fall down on game time and style. However, the North Londoners are likely to offload at least one of Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard this summer, which would increase Gordon’s chances of regular football, suggesting this is not as clear-cut a decision as the numbers might suggest.

Bayern, meanwhile, score 68.

Gordon firmly on the market

With it now public that Gordon is at least open to the possibility of leaving Newcastle, the dynamics of the transfer could develop rapidly, particularly with so many big clubs interested in potentially signing him.

It’s clearly still early days in this developing race, but Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern and possibly more major clubs will all be keeping a close eye on how this transfer saga develops.
