Manchester United have been told that they will need to act quickly to secure one of their defensive targets this summer, with interest rapidly developing in a bargain option.
United are aiming to spend significantly this summer to continue evolving their squad, with big investments expected in midfield and on a wide attacker such as Nico Williams, who was this week linked with a €90 million move to Old Trafford.
However, such a costly acquisition would substantially deplete United’s resources this summer and the Red Devils are still keen to add quality in defence, both at left back and centre back.
Consequently, United are considering low-cost options to supplement their transfer business which has led to interest in Marcos Senesi, who is set to leave Bournemouth when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Senesi has been with the Cherries for four years and the 28-year-old is set to follow manager Andoni Iraola out the exit door in the summer, prompting the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and United to explore a deal, according to eSPORTY.
It is claimed that Senesi is looking for a quick resolution over his future before the season ends and, while the Argentine centre-back is thought to favour a move to abroad, a move to United or another English side could still materialise in the coming months.
Man Utd eye Bournemouth raid with Kroupi and Iraola also considered
United are keen to continue bringing in players with Premier League experience after noting the positive immediate impacts of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, who were signed from divisional rivals last summer.
The club’s priority is still to add two midfielders, with Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali believed to be top of United’s shortlist, while Yan Diomande is understood to be the top target ahead of Williams on the left wing.
A left-back is also wanted, although much will depend on how much is spent on the higher priorities, making a move for Senesi a sensible option given his status as a low-cost and experienced Premier League player.
United are also understood to have an interest in another Bournemouth star in Junior Kroupi and their pursuit of both him and Senesi could be significantly boosted if Iraola is targeted to succeed Michael Carrick as manager after the Spaniard announced his intention to leave the Cherries.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Iraola is open to the an approach if the United opt for a change in personnel, although Carrick is still expected to be named as the club’s full-time manager at the end of the season.
