Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League and board member of the Nigeria Football Federation, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has thrown his full support behind NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau, insisting that continuity is vital for the growth of Nigerian football.

Speaking amid ongoing debates about leadership and reforms within the federation, Elegbeleye argued that stability at the top is necessary to sustain progress.
“Continuity is key,” he said.
According to him, leadership positions within football administration should not be treated lightly, stressing that not everyone is equipped to handle the responsibility.
“It’s not for everybody,” he noted.
Elegbeleye challenged critics and potential contenders to present their credentials, urging anyone interested in the role to demonstrate their track record and achievements in football administration.
“Show your record,” he implied.
The NPFL chairman also expressed confidence in Gusau’s leadership, stating that he is ready to defend the president’s credibility in any public debate.
“I can debate anyone,” he declared.
For Elegbeleye, the focus should be on building on existing structures rather than constantly changing leadership, which he believes can disrupt progress.
“We must build on what we have,” he stressed.
His comments come at a time when Nigerian football is facing calls for reform and accountability, with differing opinions on whether continuity or change is the best path forward.
As discussions intensify ahead of upcoming elections, the debate over leadership will remain a central issue.
For Elegbeleye, however, the message is clear.
Stability breeds progress.
And for now, he believes Gusau is the man to lead that charge.
