Benoit Badiashile is highly likely to have already played his final game for Chelsea, with the Frenchman set to be sold during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old thoroughly impressed upon his arrival from AS Monaco in January 2023, but his form soon tailed off and he has been a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge for the past three seasons.
Badiashile was a regular during Chelsea’s run to Europa Conference League glory last season, making 11 appearances in the competition, however injuries and a lack of form limited him to playing just five Premier League matches throughout the entire campaign.
The two-time France international has once again found game time hard to come by in 2025-26 and the 3-2 win over Wrexham in the FA Cup is the only time he has played since January.
Badiashile has fallen even further down the pecking order since the appointment of Liam Rosenior and the loan recall of Mamadou Sarr, and he hasn’t featured in Chelsea’s last eight Premier League fixtures.
He missed the 3-0 defeat to Everton through illness and despite returning to full team training ahead of the Blues’ FA Cup win over Port Vale, he was excluded from the matchday squad entirely, while he was also omitted versus Manchester City on Sunday.
Tosin Adarabioyo, Josh Acheampong and the aforementioned Sarr were all selected on the substitutes bench ahead of Badiashile against Pep Guardiola’s side, while Jorrel Hato partnered Wesley Fofana in the starting XI.
Benoit Badiashile set to leave Chelsea
Badiashile has been heavily linked with a Chelsea exit for several months and the selection of Hato at centre-back against Man City suggests that a departure will almost certainly be permitted this summer.
The Dutchman has regularly featured at left-back during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, but Rosenior opted to deploy him at the heart of defence on Sunday, largely due to his ability to help Chelsea progress the ball up the pitch via his strong left foot.
Despite the 3-0 loss, Hato impressed on the day and firmly staked his claim to be the back-up to Levi Colwill once the Englishman returns from the anterior cruciate ligament injury that he suffered back in August.
As a result, Hato and Colwill are set to be Chelsea’s left-footed centre-back options next season, while the Blues will also have Tosin, Acheampong, Sarr, Fofana and the injured Trevoh Chalobah at their disposal.
In addition, Rosenior’s side are set to sign a starting quality option capable of partnering Colwill next season, and Badiashile will therefore likely be deemed surplus to requirements, with a sale expected to be agreed.
