John Terry was ‘gutted’ to hear that Enzo Fernandez will miss Chelsea’s clash against Manchester City this weekend.
John Terry has questioned why Liam Rosenior has banned Enzo Fernandez from playing this weekend. Chelsea will be without the 24-year-old midfielder when they face Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as he serves the final game of his in-house two-match suspension.
Speaking to reporters last week, ahead of the Blues’ clash against Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-final, Rosenior announced that Fernandez had been sanctioned by the club. The Argentine had cast doubt over his future in west London during the international break, and it didn’t go down well with higher-ups.
According to the Chelsea boss, Fernandez has since apologised to his colleagues. However, there are still a ‘few obstacles’ to iron out, so a ‘serious meeting’ will be held following the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side.
In a video uploaded to TikTok, Terry claimed he’s gutted that the playmaker will miss this weekend’s match. The Blues legend said: “Obviously, we miss the game with Enzo, who missed the Port Vale game in the FA Cup.

“I never really understand this, to be honest. He’s been one of our best players this season. He fights for the shirt. And I just think these issues can be dealt with internally because it feels like the only team that loses out in these instances are Chelsea.
“We go without one of our best players and captain or vice-captain for a really big game and an important part of the season. So I’m gutted he’s not playing. Hopefully, we can still do the job without him.”

Speaking to reporters at Cobham on Friday afternoon, Rosenior explained why Fernandez will remain on the sidelines. The Chelsea boss said: “Yeah, I’ve had a really good conversation myself, I had three or four with Enzo.
“He’s apologised to me, he’s apologised to the club, and we’ll deal with that after a massive game on Sunday,” added Rosenior. “It’s a serious meeting about something very serious.
“Enzo, I said from every single step along this way, I’m not questioning Enzo’s character, I’m not questioning who he is as a person. I believe people make mistakes and you can’t overstep the punishment for the mistake.
“I think we’ve made a sanction, we made a decision, I made a decision, and what I want for Enzo is for him to come on here and have an outstanding career. He won’t play on Sunday, but hopefully after that he’ll be a massive part of the group moving forward.
“There’s still a few hurdles that need to be overcome that I won’t go into, but at the same time I want every player really, really focused now on a huge run.”
On whether the club have shot themselves in the foot, Rosenior said: “It’s not about, football is a team sport, it’s not about individuals, it’s not about shooting yourself in the foot.
“There are certain values and cultures that I believe in, that this club believes in, that makes the team stronger if you get that right.”
