While US and Iranian delegates are discussing possible peace negotiations today in Islamabad, Pakistan, reports indicate Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei could make an appearance very soon.
Khamenei, walking in the footsteps of his father who was killed by US airstrikes not long after the conflict erupted on February 28, is said to be physically battered and scarred from the war.
The 58-year-old cleric was wounded in an airstrike that ripped through the central Tehran compound that killed his dad and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as his wife, in-laws and other close relatives.
Sources allege the blast has left Mojtaba with a disfigured face and serious injuries to one or both his legs, and may have even lost a limb.
Despite his injuries, sources say he is still calling the shots and is believed to be dialling into high-profile discussions via audio links, including military decisions and crunch talks with the US.
