THIS is the haunting final picture of a 25-year-old student blowing out the candles on the cake that would lead to her tragic death.
Remziye Horuz’s friends had allegedly been assured that the cake did not contain eggs by the bakery – they knew she had a severe allergy.
But after eating a slice of the cake at her birthday party in Ağrı, eastern Turkey, Remziye suddenly became ill, struggling to breathe.
She was rushed to hospital and spent 19 days fighting for her life before dying in intensive care on 22nd December 2025.
Remziye died of complications from her egg allergy, investigators said.
Prosecutors have now charged bakery owner Yakup Aral and two workers, Fatih Yalçın and Ferzende Y. with causing death by “conscious negligence”.

All three face up to nine years behind bars if convicted.
Remziye’s flatmates had specifically asked if the cake contained eggs, court documents said.
The two friends who bought the cake said they had asked bakery worker Yalçın if there were any cakes egg-free cakes, explaining that Remziye had an egg allergy and asthma.
Employee Yalçın then allegedly showed the pair a cake, stating that it did not contain any eggs.
The friends said Yalçın called shop owner Aral to confirm that the cake did not contain flour and eggs.
Satisfied it was safe, they bought it home and brought it to their student flat.
Court documents say Remziye’s flatmates accounts are confirmed by CCTV footage and audio recordings from the bakery.
Prosecutors alleged: “Despite the request, the deceased was provided with false information regarding the contents of the food produced, in violation of regulations; that the owner of the pastry shop, Yakup Aral, failed to fulfill his responsibilities as a food business operator under the legislation.”
They added that the shop-owner “did not provide adequate training to his staff, and failed to provide accurate and complete information upon his staff’s request for information”.
They said: “The suspects, Fatih Yalçın and Ferzende Yalçın, despite the explicit request of the deceased, provided false information regarding the contents of the food for which they were responsible for sale, in violation of regulations, and acted contrary to their duty of care and diligence by performing their duties without the necessary information and training and by misleading the deceased about the contents of the food he purchased.”
The defendants insisted on their innocence and asking to be released and acquitted.
Remziye’s family withdrew their complaints and the court released the detained defendants on bail.
The trial continues.
It comes after the tragic death of a 15-year-old Italian basketball player after she suffered a severe anaphylactic shock.
Sofia Di Vico, a teen basketball player from Maddaloni, near Naples, was having dinner with her teammates when she suddenly became unwell.
Sofia was severely allergic to milk proteins, but it is not yet known if the scrambled eggs and green beans she was eating contained traces of milk or cheese.
The restaurant had reportedly been made aware of the teen’s serious lactose intolerance.
An autopsy has been ordered to formally determine the cause of the young athlete’s death.
