Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has reacted gleefully to Wednesday’s confirmation of fixtures for the 2026 Unity Cup, with a verdict that it provides ‘another opportunity to see the Super Eagles compete.’

Sports247 reports that Gusau is also happy that the Eagles will play this year’s competition against Zimbabwe, India and Jamaica on familiar terrain, with a favourable opportunity of defending the trophy they won on May 31st last year.
Although the 2025 edition took place at Brentford’s BTech Stadium, while this year’s matches will be staged at Charlton Athletic’s Valley Stadium, Gusau believes Nigeria still have an advantage, since the four-nation tournament is always in London.
He, however, charged the Eagles not to underrate any opponent, then concluded by asserting that the players are all top professionals who know that high-profile matches like the ones ahead of them are not won on paper.
Gusau’s comments were outlined in a long media statement from the NFF’s communications department, which quoted him thus: “The Nigeria Football Federation is pleased with another opportunity to see the Super Eagles compete at the highly exciting and entertaining Unity Cup Tournament.
“As perennial champions, the Super Eagles will look to retain their title again this summer, even as they will not underrate the other participating teams viz India, Jamaica and Zimbabwe. The tournament promises to be explosive and that is the setting in which the Super Eagles thrive best.”
The media department’s statement added, “The Unity Cup, the premier international football tournament celebrating AfroCentric and global diaspora communities, is officially returning to its historic home from 26 to 30 May 2026.
“The tournament kicks off with a high-stakes African heavyweight clash: Nigeria v Zimbabwe. This opening Semi-Final serves as a massive rematch following their intense 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying encounters.
“With the memories of those hard-fought qualifiers still fresh, the Super Eagles and the Warriors will look to settle the score on neutral ground. A global culinary journey with authentic flavours from Nigeria, Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and India.”
