Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has hinted that he will leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an excellent spell on loan at Championship side Bristol City this season and he has admitted that he has no interest in returning to Old Trafford if he is going to play second-fiddle to Senne Lammens.

Speaking to BBC Sport last week, Vitek said: “At this stage in my career, I want to play as many games as possible. I wouldn’t benefit from sitting on the bench.

“At the moment, I’m focusing on being as strong as possible for Bristol City with eight games to play,” he added when asked about his future.

“I want to give my best for the club and build my platform towards next season. Then I will communicate with Manchester United closely, and we will see what’s going to be best for me next season.

“But I want to play football. I don’t want to just be somewhere sitting on the bench.”

As a result, Man Utd face an uphill battle to retain the 22-year-old and a departure this summer, whether on loan or permanently, is expected to be permitted.

Radek Vitek set to leave Man Utd

Vitek has kept 10 clean sheets in 36 Championship games for Bristol City this campaign and a permanent move to Ashton Gate has been mooted, although a deal is unlikely as reports indicate that Man Utd could be set to demand a fee close to €11.5 million to sanction a sale this summer.

Furthermore, interim Bristol City boss Roy Hodgson, who was hired following the sacking of Gerhard Struber, believes Vitek is good enough to play in the English top flight next season.

“I have only watched our players for two games so I have to be careful what I say, but from what I have seen Radek has all the attributes to be a Premier League goalkeeper,” Hodgson said after Vitek’s heroics during a 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Monday.

“You want your keeper to have a good physique, be a good shot-stopper, command his area when it comes to crosses and have a powerful kick. To me, he fills all those requirements.”
