South Sydney Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston has announced his engagement to his long-time girlfriend Taryn just weeks after becoming the NRL’s greatest-ever try scorer.
The Bunnies cult hero and his new fiancée have published a joint Instagram post to reveal the exciting news after being together for more than a decade.
‘11.5 years later,’ the announcement was captioned on Instagram.
The couple’s post, which boasted photos of them posing with their children, has been met with messages of congratulations from several of Johnston’s current teammates and stars from other teams.
‘Congrats fam, best news ever,’ said Rabbitohs skipper Cameron Murray.
‘Congrats gang,’ Souths centre Jack Wighton wrote.

The happy couple’s dating journey began after Taryn sent a friend request to the Souths star while they attended neighbouring high schools.
After a quick check of her profile, Johnston accepted the request – especially after discovering that Taryn had been a cheerleader for the Sydney Roosters.
The schoolteacher was by Johnston’s side during his rookie NRL season in 2014, when his team won the premiership and broke the club’s 43-year title drought.
Johnston recently made even more history after breaking Ken Irvine’s record as the competition’s most prolific try scorer.
He ran in his 213th NRL try for the Rabbitohs in round two in front of a packed Allianz Stadium, which erupted after he broke the record in scenes the game hasn’t witnessed in decades.
The incredible feat has been celebrated in several ways by the club he has represented in more than 200 NRL games.
Johnston has had a bronze statue erected in his honour to commemorate the achievement, and is expected to play his 250th NRL game for Souths this month.
