Liverpool given £87m Michael Olise alternative with move for Bayern Munich star ‘unrealistic’

Liverpool should focus on signing RB Leipzig’s £87million-rated winger Yan Diomande – Michael Olise is not a feasible option.

That’s the view of The Athletic’s James Pearce, who has had his say on the Reds’ search to replace Mohamed Salah in the summer.

It was confirmed last week that the Reds legend would be departing Anfield at the end of the season on a free transfer following nine trophy-laden years.

The Merseyside outfit have since been linked with a move to sign Bayern Munich star Olise, who has thrived in Germany since joining from Crystal Palace in 2024.

German media suggested that Liverpool would be prepared to offer around £173million for the France international – something Bayern chief Uli Hoeness has shut down.

But after Liverpool splashed out £446m last summer – a record amount by a club in a single window – funds may be more scarce this time around.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are still hoping play Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz in the same team, with the trio limited to just 88 minutes of action together.

Isak joined from Newcastle for a British record £125m – surpassing the £116.5m they spent on Wirtz – while also forking out £79m on Ekitike.

Diomande in the rough

With Olise a seemingly unattainable figure, Liverpool could look to make a move for Diomande, who has chipped in with 11 goals and eight assists in 29 games in all competitions since joining from Leganes last summer.
