Barcelona wing-back Joao Cancelo has disclosed that he was unfairly treated by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The versatile full-back joined the Citizens in 2019 and enjoyed an immensely successful few years with the club, winning three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the League Cup during his spell in English football.
However, Cancelo’s relationship with City and, in particular, manager Guardiola soured at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign as he lost his place in the team to young Rico Lewis.
Speaking with Canal 11, the Portuguese international expressed disappointment with the way Guardiola treated him.

“I was coming back from the World Cup in 2022, and the manager and I had a heated argument.
“He didn’t want me there anymore, so I decided to go to Bayern and I haven’t regretted it since. He told me, ‘I’m not happy with you in training,’ and that he wasn’t counting on me anymore.
“I thought it was unfair, and I still do.”
