Getafe CF have been dealt a significant financial setback after a Madrid court ruled against the club in a case involving a disputed €20 million clause tied to Christantus Uche.

The judgment, delivered by Madrid Commercial Court No. 15, sided with LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation, overturning interim measures that had temporarily eased Getafe’s financial restrictions during the January transfer window.
Those precautionary measures, initially granted on January 30, allowed the club some flexibility despite concerns over compliance with financial regulations.
However, the court determined that the ruling was made without hearing from the relevant football authorities and that the urgency cited by Getafe did not justify maintaining the protections after a full review.
Central to the case is a projected €20 million income linked to Uche’s loan move to Crystal Palace. The agreement included a condition requiring the forward to start at least 10 matches for the transfer to become permanent—an obligation that has yet to be fulfilled as the season draws to a close.
Following this, LaLiga rejected Getafe’s financial projections and reduced the club’s salary cap from €51.9 million to €34.8 million. The adjustment created an excess of €17 million, effectively preventing the registration of new players.
The ruling underscores LaLiga’s strict financial oversight, reiterating that clubs cannot rely on conditional or unrealised revenue to meet regulatory requirements.
Despite the decision, players signed during the winter transfer window—including Martín Satriano, Sebastián Boselli, Zaid Romero, Birmancevic, and Luis Vázquez—will remain eligible, as their registrations were completed while the interim measures were still in effect.
Getafe must now operate under tighter financial constraints, with the reduced salary cap expected to impact future transfer plans and potentially force player sales or wage adjustments.
