Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed an immense 2025-26 campaign to date, but they are expected to dip back into the market this summer in a bid to further bolster their first-team squad ahead of next season.

FootballTransfers understands that Newcastle United duo Valentino Livramento and Sandro Tonali have both been earmarked as top summer targets by the Gunners hierarchy, while we have also been told that Rafael Leao and Francesco Pio Esposito are on the club’s radar too.

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez and Club Brugge frontman Nicolo Tresoldi have also emerged as two of Arsenal’s dream signings, although the club have now added Garcia to their list of potential striker targets.

That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Arteta’s side are already working on the financial details of a possible swoop. It’s understood that Arsenal are likely to offload Gabriel Jesus on a permanent deal to help fund a move for the Real Madrid attacker, although they could face surprise competition from Newcastle United.

Analysis: Will Gonzalo Garcia replace Viktor Gyokeres?

Garcia has only started 12 matches across all competitions for Real Madrid so far this season, due to competition from Kylian Mbappe, but he has still caught the eye in limited minutes this term.

The 22-year-old has netted six goals and provided two assists this campaign, while he has scored in each of his last five games for Spain’s U21 side.

If Arsenal are successful in their bid to sign him this summer, Garcia would likely replace Jesus’ role as a rotation option in the squad, with appearances largely limited to substitute minutes in the Premier League and starts in cup competitions.

However, Viktor Gyokeres will turn 28 years old in June and if he developed well at the Emirates Stadium, Garcia could eventually replace the Sweden international as Arteta’s preferred striker.
