Former Rangers and Super Eagles left winger, Ejike Uzoenyi, has exclusively told Completesports.com that the ongoing 2025/2026 NPFL season is the ‘toughest’ and ‘best’ in recent times.
NPFL Season Lauded As Most Competitive In Recent Years
Uzoenyi, who was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, said on Wednesday that this term has been highly competitive, with virtually all teams uncertain of their finishing prospects.
“It has been a very strong campaign so far, I must say,” Uzoenyi said. “For me, it’s the best and most competitive in recent times,” the former Rangers winger added.
Title Race Wide Open With Six Matches Remaining
“There are six matches left before the end of the season, yet there is still no clear-cut leader you can say stands a better chance of winning.

“All the teams in the top 12 positions have chances of winning the league. The same applies to those in the lower rung of the table.
“That shows the beauty and quality of the league this season. It also reflects its toughness.”
Close Standings Highlight NPFL’s Intensity
Rivers United currently top the 2025/2026 NPFL table with 55 points. Rangers International are second with 54 points, while Ikorodu City sit third on 52 points.
Nasarawa United and Shooting Stars occupy fourth and fifth positions respectively with 50 points each, while Abia Warriors are sixth on 49 points.
Uzoenyi Backs NPFL Organisers, Predicts Photo Finish
“I think it will be a photo finish. None of the teams above can boast of sitting comfortably, and that is the beauty of the league this season. I must give kudos to the organisers, NPFL, for a good job.
“Hopefully, they can build on this to take the Nigeria league to greater heights,” Uzoenyi emphasised.
