The atmosphere was vibrant and charged with anticipation as the 3rd Edition of the Annual Late Sir Peter Akinhonmi Eigbedion (KSM) Football Competition brought together Students, Alumni, and members of the wider Community in a dynamic celebration of football, unity, and enduring legacy.
Building on the success of previous editions, this year’s tournament showcased remarkable growth in participation, organization, and competitive excellence.
The Closing ceremony which took place on the 31st March 2026 was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Festus Aisabokhale, Chief Medical Director, Ofure Medical Centre, Ekpoma who was the Chairman of the Opening Ceremony, Prof. Mrs. Eunice Omonzejie, the Vice Chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and Chairman of the Closing Ceremony.
The Vice Chancellor was ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof Osagie Ekhator. Dr Peter Akhideno, an Alumnus of the 1991 graduation set of the school and who is the Immediate Past President of the Edo Central All Star Football Club as well as a Consultant Specialist Grade 1 at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) was the Special Guest of Honour at the Closing ceremony.
The Onogie of Irrua and the Okaijesan of Esanland, His Royal Highness Alhaji W O. Momodu II (JP, CON) was represented by Chief Dr Christopher Igene (PhD) and other Chiefs from the Royal Palace of Irrua. Dr Cyril Erameh, Consultant Internal Physician and the immediate past Executive Director of the Lassa Fever Institute of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital was also there. Mrs Cordelia Aigbevboile, the Home Branch Chairman of the University Secondary School Old Students’ Association (USSEOSA), alongside other notable Alumni were present to grace the event. Comrade David Ohiwerei, the President of the Ambrose Alli University Medical Students Association (AAUMSA), Mr Daniel Omoruyi Sports Director of AAUMSA and some other members of his Executives were there too.
There were also several members of the Community too numerous to mention including men and women of the 4th estate graced the Closing ceremony. Their presence underscored the deep cultural, educational, social, and communal significance of the competition.
The weeklong Football Tournament which started on the 23rd March 2026 was organized under the auspices of the University Secondary School Old Students Association (USSEOSA), and sponsored solely by Dr. Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion, an Alumnus of the 1992 graduation set. The competition stood as a testament to effective coordination, vision, and commitment to Youth Development through Sports.
At the heart of the event was the Chief Host and Principal of the Ambrose Alli University Secondary School Ekpoma, Mrs Fidelia Ndudi Ajuwa whose dedication and support ensured the seamless execution of the tournament.
Substantiating this was the invaluable sponsorship of Dr. Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion, whose continued commitment to preserving the legacy of his Late Father, Sir Peter Akinhonmi Eigbedion (KSM) has remained instrumental in sustaining and growing the competition.
Together, their collaboration breathed life into a vision that continues to inspire excellence and unity.
Hosted at the Ambrose Alli University Secondary School Football field, the weeklong Tournament featured thrilling encounters defined by skill, resilience, and sportsmanship. One of the most memorable moments came during the dramatic final match between the Male SSS1 and SSS3 classes, where SSS1 surged to an early 2–0 lead in the first half.
In a stunning display of determination, grit and resilience, the SSS3 class mounted a comeback to level the score by the end of regulation time. The tension peaked as the match proceeded to penalties, where the SSS1 Class emerged victorious with a 3–2 win, sealing a contest that will long be remembered by the entire Community for many, many, years to come.
In terms of overall performance, the SSS1 Male clinched victory in the Senior Secondary School category, while the SSS3 Female emerged Champions in the Senior Secondary female category.
At the junior level, JSS2 Male and Female teams dominated their respective categories, showcasing the depth of talent and promise within the school. Medals were also given to deserving Individual participants as the most valuable players (MVPs) of the various categories as well as the highest goal scorers.
Beyond the excitement on the pitch, the competition reinforced key values:
