Kobbie Mainoo may no longer be tempted to join Chelsea from Manchester United after a recent update from a member of the Blues squad. Chelsea have previously been credited with an interest in signing Mainoo, who at one time faced an uncertain future at United.
Mainoo was often not in the first-team picture at United during former head coach Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford but has become a key member of the squad once again since Michael Carrick was appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season.
Chelsea have been tipped to go into the market for a new midfielder, which led to rumours that Mainoo could be a target for the Blues when the summer transfer window opens.

However, Chelsea star Marc Cucurella’s recent comments about the club may give Mainoo some thinking to do if the opportunity to move to Stamford Bridge did come up.
Cucurella admitted that he disagreed with the decision that Chelsea took to part ways with Enzo Maresca earlier this year, with Liam Rosenior going on to be named as his replacement.
“We knew what Maresca wanted from us,” Cucurella recently told The Athletic. “Winning a title like the Club World Cup also helps, strengthens the bond, and you create great relationships during the celebrations. When a manager gives you that confidence and offers you a platform to fight for titles, you’d die for him.
“The moment Maresca left, it had a big impact on us. These are decisions taken by the club. If you asked me, I would not have made this decision.
“To make a change like that, the best thing is to wait until the end of the season. You would give everyone, the players and the new manager, time to get ready, have a full pre-season…
“The instability around the club comes from this, in a nutshell. We had a caretaker [Calum McFarlane] first, then a new manager, with new ideas and no time to work on them. It is what it is.”
Enzo Fernandez has also hinted that his future may lie away from Chelsea in recent weeks, with the midfielder asked about his time at Stamford Bridge after the defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last month.
“I don’t know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see,” Fernandez is reported to have said on ESPN Argentina.
While it remains to be seen what will happen with Mainoo’s future at United, with reports in recent weeks suggesting that the midfielder is close to agreeing a new long-term contract to remain at Old Trafford.
Even if a chance of a move away from United could be on the cards for Mainoo, the comments made by Cucurella and Fernandez may give the England international a rethink when it comes to a potential switch to Chelsea.
