Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella cast doubt over their futures at Chelsea during the international break.
If Chelsea were to sell Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella at the end of the season, BlueCo could bank in excess of £100m. The duo face somewhat uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge, having both recently opened the door to moves in the summer transfer window.
Fernandez first cast doubt over his future shortly after the west Londoners crashed out of the UEFA Champions League. Paris Saint-Germain had stormed past Chelsea in the last-16, winning 8-2 on aggregate.
During an interview with ESPN Argentina, the Blues midfielder couldn’t guarantee whether he’ll still be at the club next season. Fernandez said: “I don’t know.
“My focus is here for now. We have eight Premier League matches to play and the FA Cup. Then, the World Cup coming up so we’ll see after that.”

The Argentina international added: “Since I arrived at Chelsea we have already passed through similar situations and we were able to turn them around. Now, our focus must be on winning the FA Cup and achieving our goal of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.”
Liam Rosenior later claimed that Fernandez’s comment were in misconstrued. But then in an interview on the Avirales YouTube channel during the international break, the Argentine expressed his desire to one day move to the Spanish capital.

“I’d like to live in Spain,” said Fernandez. “I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires. Players live where they want. I’d live in Madrid. I get by in English, but I’d be more comfortable in Spanish.”
Cucurella also commented on his future. Speaking to reporters ahead of Spain’s friendly against Egypt, the Chelsea defender was asked about his thoughts on a return to Barcelona, where he began his professional career.
“You always think about going back,” he said. “I’m very happy there [in London] and so is my family. I’ll leave it for a few years from now.
“It [an offer from Barcelona] would be difficult to refuse. It’s not just about me. I’d have to think about my family. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what decision is made.”
In an interview with The Athletic, Cucurella also questioned the decision to sack Enzo Maresca and appoint Rosenior. The Spaniard also suggested that the Chelsea project doesn’t align with those who want to ‘win big things’.
So, with that being said, football.london has looked at how much Chelsea could make if they were to sell Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella this summer.
How much could Chelsea get for Fernandez?
Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica for £106m in February 2023. The Blues tied the midfielder down to an eight-and-a-half year contract at Stamford Bridge, and spread the cost of the transfer across the life of the deal.
By amortising the fee over such a lengthy period of time, Chelsea were able to continue spending large sums while remaining compliant with the Premier League’s spending rules (PSR).
UEFA later limited the length of time over which teams could expense, or amortise, transfer fees to five years, with the Premier League following suit in 2023. But neither of the rule changes were backdated, so the west Londoners continued to reap the rewards of the loophole.
Although that means Fernandez holds a greater net book value for longer, Chelsea will need to work harder to ensure they turn a profit. According to The Athletic, the Blues would need to sell the Argentine for £77.6m on the day the upcoming transfer window opens in order to not make a loss.
Then, any bid accepted before the end of the transfer window worth less than £75m would reportedly go down as a loss. Fortunately for Chelsea, Fernandez has grown into one of the best midfielders around, being the only world champion on the domestic and international stage.
Transfermarkt currently value the Blues star at €90m/£78.4m. Meanwhile, Sky Sports has reported that Chelsea would only consider an offer of more than £100m for Fernandez.
How much could Chelsea get for Cucurella?
Chelsea signed Cucurella from Brighton in August 2022 for £60m. The Blues defender had a rocky start to life at Stamford Bridge, but he eventually blossomed into a top left-back.
Although Cucurella has filled his trophy cabinet with silverware, winning the Conference League and Club World Cup with Chelsea, as well as the European Championship with Spain, he only has two years or so left on his contract.
As it stands, it remains to be seen whether the left-back will extend his stay in west London. But, the longer Chelsea wait to make a decision on his future, the more his net book value will diminish.
Of course, Cucurella could have a all-time outing at the World Cup in the summer and fetch an eye-watering fee. However, Transfermarkt currently value him at €50m/£53.6m.
