The chairman of National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko has expressed strong optimism that Nigeria will gain immensely from the discovery of new talents in para-sports from the competition that began last weekend in Abuja.

Sports247 reports that, Dikko, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at he opening ceremony of the 3rd Para-Games at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja described it as a critical platform for talent discovery.
Dikko commended all states that presented athletes for competitions in various events of special sports and promised that talents discovered during the contests will represent Nigeria at the next African Championship and Paralympics.
He pointed out that physically challenged athletes never got so much attention, support and encouragement they are gaining under the government of President Tinubu, which makes Para-Games 2026 the best since it began six years ago.
Dikko enthused, “The event has continued to evolve as a critical platform for talent discovery, national unity and preparation of athletes for international competitions such as the Paralympic Games, African championships and Commonwealth Games amongst others.”
Sports247 gathered further that over 3,000 athletes from 36 States of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to participate in the third edition of the Para-Games, holding from March 26th up to this Friday, April 3rd.
The athletes will compete in 15 events, among which the most prominent are para-athletics, wheelchair basketball, para-swimming, amputee football, para-soccer, sitting volleyball, para-powerlifting, and wheelchair tennis.
