A board member of Shooting Federation of Nigeria and advocate of women in sport, Air Commodore Rahinatu Garba (retired) says the recent IOC/NOC Sports Administrators Course in Abuja was an expository venture.

Sports247 gathered that Garba, who played handball, basketball and badminton in her younger days, poured encomiums on organisers of the course that was solely for women sports administrators.
In the wake of the gathering that came to an end on Thursday, Garba joined other participants in praising the organisers for packaging ‘a timely and strategic course’ for changing the face of Nigeria’s sports administration.
The retired former military officer disclosed that the course helped her gain further knowledge and become better informed about promoting values, management of resource and organisation within administrative duty posts.
“The course was expository, and we had the opportunity to interact and give examples on how to tackle issues. I must commend the IOC, NOC and everyone who made this course possible, especially for how it made way for only women.
“I am better informed about so many things after attending this important sports administrator course by the IOC for only women. It has broadened my knowledge, especially on the principle of leadership of the Olympic Movement.
“Athletes are the heart of the Olympic Movement. Without them, there would be no victories, no actions, no stories, and no organization,” stated Garba, who also affirmed that all the resources persons gave living examples of what was taught.
Sports247 gathered that the course, which was organized specifically for former female athletes and women sports administrators, was an initiative of International Olympic Committee (IOC), in conjunction with Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
It was a first of its kind in Nigeria and had over 40 women as participants, who were taken through topics in leadership principles, crisis management, communication, travel logistics, bidding for hosting rights and athletes’ welfare.
