Italy-based Nigerian-born female discuss ace, Daisy Oyemwenosa Osakue was in top form on the field in Melbourne, Australia, where she won a gold medal for the country of her birth at the 2026 World Athletics Continental Tour.

Sports247 reports that Osakue started in grande style at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne, where she clinched the discus title with a hurl of 57.94m, thereby marking another career highlight for the 30-year-old athlete.
Her performance further confirmed the staying power of Osakue, who was born in Turin to Nigerian parents and became a naturalized Italian citizen at the age of 18, but later attended Angelo State University in San Angelo, USA.
Her first spotlight moment came as an undergraduate, when she emerged as an eight-time National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division II All-American awardee, then a two-time Division II national champion (2018 and 2019).
During her time at Angelo State University, Osakue was an eight-time NCAA Division II All-American and holds the sector’s record of 61.35m in women’s discuss, though she previously competed in tennis, high jump and hurdles.
She is also a second team Division II All-American awardee in the high jump and, in 2018, after enacting a 4th all-time Italian top-ranked performance in the discus throw, she obtained the standard FIDAL and EAA certification.
Osakue was then invited by DT Elio Locatelli to represent Italy at the European Championships in Berlin, Germany, then placed 5th at the 2018 European Athletics Championships and competed at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Her throw of 63.66m on July 31st, 2021 – during the qualifying round in Tokyo – established a new national record for Italy by Osakue, whose coach is a former Italian discus thrower, Maria Marello.
The Nigerian-born lass was also at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, where she finished 10th with a mark of 58.56m, as well as the 2025 Diamond League, where she got 4th-place in Ramona, Oklahoma, with a season’s best of 63.10m.
