Despite calling time on his professional career in January 2018, the Brazil legend is set to add another fabled English venue to his collection.
Sunderland has announced the Stadium of Light will host a Ronaldinho and Friends match on May 25, one day after the Black Cats wrap up the 2025/26 Premier League campaign at home against Chelsea.
Who will play in the Ronaldinho and Friends match in Sunderland?
Ronaldinho will lead one of the teams, with Black Cats hero Jermain Defoe to front a UK icons side.
Although the full line-ups are yet to be confirmed, a number of recognisable faces have been announced as Ronaldinho’s teammates for the match.
Ex-Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse will line up alongside the one-time Ballon d’Or winner, as will former Tottenham and Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
Former Manchester United duo Rafael and Fabio have also been locked in, with Kleberson, Fernando and Anderson also set to be involved.
Fans will be able to score a ticket for £25, while concession tickets are £20.
“It is an absolute privilege to host this game and welcome one of the most iconic legends of the sport,” Sunderland chief business officer David Bruce said.
“The Stadium of Light is known for hosting big occasions and this event with Ronaldinho is no different.
“Sunderland is a major global destination for football fans, and we look forward to welcoming some of the greats while showing off our city.”

Marcel Nalyan, the curator of the Ronaldinho and Friends contest, added: “Ronaldinho’s love for football has never faded, not even with the close of his professional career.
“It had been a long time since he last visited the UK, and he had longed for the chance to play there once more.
“When the opportunity with Sunderland arose, he said immediately, ‘Let’s do it!’
“From the very beginning, he loved everything about the fans on Wearside, the stadium, and all that comes with it.”
Ronaldinho’s career at a glance
Although he officially called time on his playing career in 2018, Ronaldinho’s final match as a professional was in September 2015 with Brazilian club Fluminense.
The 2005 Ballon d’Or winner is best remembered for his five-year stint at Barcelona, where he became a global icon thanks to his wizardry on the ball.

At the Spanish giants, Ronaldinho made just over 200 appearances across all competitions, scoring 94 goals and chalking up 70 assists.
The Brazilian icon helped Barcelona win two LaLiga titles, two Spanish Super Cups as well as the Champions League in 2006.
He left Barcelona in July 2008 to join AC Milan, but only spent two seasons at the Italian powerhouse before moving back to his homeland.
