World Athletics, NSC Finalizes Preparations, as Lagos Hosts Africa Working Convention 2026

Nigeria will take centre stage in African street working as Lagos State hosts the Africa Working Convention 2026, a two-day continental gathering designed to reshape the way forward for working and mass participation sports activities throughout Africa.

The convention, organised below the auspices of World Athletics in collaboration with the Nationwide Sport Fee, will maintain on Thursday, February 12 (Workshops) and Friday, February 13, 2026 (Convention), forward of the Access Bank Lagos Metropolis Marathon scheduled for February 14, 2026.

With the theme “Reshaping Working and Mass Participation in Africa: Embracing the World Group,” the convention will convey collectively main voices from world and African athletics, sports activities governance, finance, and mass participation platforms to debate sustainability, innovation and development in street working.

A distinguished lineup of audio system has been confirmed for the occasion, together with Dr. Paul Tergat, former marathon world document holder, Kenyan Olympic legend and Africa Working Convention Ambassador; Alessio Punzi, Head of Working at World Athletics; Fatma Abdal Amale, Vice President of Kenya Athletics; and Jackson Tuwei, Vice President of World Athletics and President of Athletics Kenya.

Additionally scheduled to talk are Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director Normal of Nigeria’s Nationwide Sports activities Fee; Mr. Roosevelt Ogbonna, Managing Director and CEO of Access Bank Plc; Dr. Emmanuel Efe Emienim, Managing Director and CEO of Premium Trust Bank Plc; Tayo Popoola, Normal Coordinator of the Lagos Marathon; Nadeem Khan, President of the Worldwide Affiliation of Extremely Runners; and Chris Robb, Founder and CEO of RunThrough and Mass Participation World.

The Africa Working Convention will function technical workshops, high-level panel discussions and knowledge-sharing periods aimed toward strengthening race organisation, increasing grassroots participation and aligning African street working with world finest practices.
