Twiga Stars are ready to face Ethiopia in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Tanzanian women’s national football team, the Twiga Stars, will host Ethiopia in a crucial first-leg 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.

Head coach Bakari Shime expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, stating that all preparations for the crucial match have been completed.

“Our goal is to qualify for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations. Therefore, we are fielding our best players, both from abroad and from our domestic leagues,” said Shime.

The tactician acknowledged Ethiopia’s strength and previous matches, but was confident that Twiga Stars’ determination and preparation would be effective in this tournament.

“We knew Ethiopia was a strong team. They had given us tough games before. But with hard work and commitment, we have proven ourselves and I believe nothing can stop us from winning,” he added. Twiga Stars will be aiming for a good result at home before heading to Addis Ababa for the decisive second leg, which will determine their place at the 2026 West African Women’s World Cup. This match is another important step for Tanzania in its quest to regain its dominance in African women’s football. A large number of local fans are expected to attend the Azzam Stadium to cheer on the team.
