The Nigerian national football team defeated Rwanda 1-0 in a thrilling final to win the 2025 Bayern Youth Cup World Final.
The victory marks Nigeria’s third Bayern Youth Cup title, making the country the most successful in the tournament’s history.

The Nigerian team was selected in July at a national tournament held in Oshodi, Lagos, where the best young players from across the country competed under the watchful eyes of scouts and coaches.
At the World Cup, Nigeria defeated eight other nations, including China, Canada, Argentina, the United States, Japan, Germany, and Rwanda, to lift the prestigious trophy.
Victor Edeh, General Manager of the Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria branch, praised the Nigerian team’s performance and highlighted their improvement and consistency throughout the tournament.
“It’s great to see the boys succeed after some tough competition,” said Ede.
“We’re delighted that Nigeria now holds the record for the most Youth Cup titles. Beyond the tournament, the cultural exchange and development these players have experienced from the regional qualifiers to the World Cup has been remarkable.”
Ede emphasized the importance of structured talent development, noting that Nigeria must continue to prioritize and nurture young players to help them achieve global success.
“For these children, it’s recognition of their talent on the world stage and an incentive for them to keep improving,” he added.
“For Nigeria, it shows that we have the talent to excel on the international stage, but we need to provide the right environment for them to thrive.”
He also cited former Nigerian players, including Victor Orakpo and Daniel Francis, who have now become professional footballers, as evidence of the program’s long-term impact.
