The Nigerian men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers, defeated Cameroon 101-92 in Luanda, completing their undefeated group stage run at the 2025 Africa Basketball Championship.
The D’Tigers secured their place in the quarterfinals and topped Group B after defeating a determined Cameroon team.
The turning point of the game came in the second quarter, when Nigeria outscored Cameroon 32-16 to take a 60-43 lead at halftime. The D’Tigers extended their lead to 86-55 at the end of the third quarter, but Cameroon fought back in the final moments to close the gap. Josh Okogie scored 16 points, while Caleb Agada (15), Stan Okoye (14), Ike Nwamu (12), Michael Mekoulu (12), and Stephen Igbanou (10) all reached double figures. This was Nigeria’s third consecutive victory, following victories over Madagascar and defending champion Tunisia. The “Tigers” currently top Group B with a perfect 3-0 record and will face the third-place team from Group A in the quarterfinals. This matchup evoked memories of the 2009 quarterfinal in Libya, when Cameroon upset Nigeria 84-80, but this time, the “Tigers” prevailed.
