A huge clash is about to take place at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala and Zambia’s Barbra Banda meet in the quarter-finals.
The Nigerian Super Falcons will take on the Zambian Bronze Queens at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. The match kicks off at 5:00 pm Nigeria time.
A tough clash
This clash is not only a battle between two great teams, but also between two of Africa’s top female footballers.
Nigeria’s star striker Asisat Oshoala has won the African Women’s Player of the Year award six times, more than any other player.
Zambia captain Barbra Banda, who was recently named the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year, took over the crown from Oshola following an outstanding season for both club and country.
Focus on the match
Oshola will be looking to help Nigeria win their 10th CAF Championship, while Banda will be aiming to lead Zambia to their first ever CAF Championship semi-final.
Nigeria is strong defensively and has not conceded a goal so far. However, their attack does not look particularly sharp, which could be a problem.
Zambia, on the other hand, has a very dangerous front line in Banda and Rachel Kundanani, both of whom are known for their pace and goal-scoring ability. They could pose a huge threat to the Nigerian defence.
This quarter-final promises to be one of the most exciting games of the tournament, with two of the greats of African football going head to head with their superstars.
