History and achievements of Mohammedan SC

Mohammedan Sports Club is an Indian football club from Kolkata, West Bengal, founded on February 22, 1891. The club recently received promotion from the I-League and now competes in the Indian Super League. He also played in the Calcutta Football League, Asia’s oldest football league.

The club dominated the 1930s and 1940s, becoming the first Indian club to win the Calcutta Football League (CFL) in 1934. The club went on to win seven more titles between 1934 and 1941, only missing out in 1939. Mohammedan SC also set a unique record of winning the CFL and IFA Shield in 1936.

The club won its first Durand Cup in 1940 and the CFL again in 1948. However, financial problems and poor performance on the field led to the club’s decline. Mohammedan Sports Club, along with several other clubs, became a founding member of the National Football League (NFL) in 1966. However, the club was relegated to the second tier of the NFL, where it played in the 1997/98, 2000/01, 2002/03 and 2004/05 seasons.

In the 2013/14 season, Mohammedan SC was relegated to the second tier of the I-League. However, the club recovered and successfully returned to the Indian Football League A. In addition to its achievements in the league, Mohammedan SC also won the now-defunct Aga Khan Gold Cup three times, in 1959, 1960 and 1964.
