Real Madrid Women won their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal.
The Spanish team celebrated a 2-0 win in the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium on a rainy day.
The heavy rain in Madrid left the pitch in poor condition, making it difficult for Arsenal to play their usual passing game. They had trouble with the slow and slippery surface.
Linda Caicedo opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with Real Madrid’s first shot of the game, completing a quick counterattack.
As Arsenal tried to equalize, Real Madrid scored again. Substitute Athena del Castillo fired in from the edge of the box, and Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberg was unable to stop the shot.
The second leg will be played at the Emirates Stadium next Wednesday.
