Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres scored in injury time as Barcelona came from 2-0 down to beat Atletico Madrid in a thrilling match and move top of La Liga.
Barcelona knew before the game that a win would put them ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference. On the other hand, a win over Barca would move Atletico up to second place.
Atletico looked ready to mount a comeback after being knocked out of the Champions League on penalties against rivals Real Madrid. They were 2-0 up with 20 minutes left.
Julian Alvarez, who missed a penalty in Wednesday’s shootout, put Atletico ahead just before half-time after Giuliano Simeone’s cross. In the 70th minute, Alexander Sorloth calmly shot in from the assist of Conor Gallagher to make it 2-0.
But Barcelona soon turned the tables. Robert Lewandowski scored a fantastic goal in the 72nd minute to make it 2-1. Six minutes later, Ferran Torres equalized with a header from Rafinha’s cross.
Sorloth had a great chance to win the game for Atletico shortly before the end of the game, but he missed the chance and was probably offside.
Barcelona took advantage of the opportunity. In the second minute of injury time, Lamine Yamal’s curling shot went over the goalkeeper to help Barcelona take the lead. Torres sealed the victory with a perfect low shot shortly before the final whistle.
Barcelona now has 60 points, level with Real Madrid and one game less. Atletico Madrid remains in third place, four points behind the top two.
