Nigerian young star Ademide Akarakiri makes history as Everton unveils new stadium The U18s took on Wigan Athletic U18s in a historic friendly. The match was part of the club's first friendly at the new stadium and was played in front of 10,000 fans. The 16-year-old midfielder was not the only Nigerian in the squad. Goalkeepers Gosper Eze and Malik Olayiwola were also included in Everton's squad. Although Everton lost 2-1, Akarakiri's effort was a proud moment. Wigan's Harrison Rimmer scored the opening goal of the match, while Everton's Ray Robert scored a consolation goal for the young Toffees just before the end of the game. Akarakiri spent ten years at Arsenal before moving to Everton and is known for his dribbling and passing skills. He counts Amadou Onana, Paul Pogba and Andres Iniesta as his footballing idols. He has represented Everton in the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League Cup this season, proving himself to be one of the club’s most exciting young talents. Everton’s new stadium is a state-of-the-art 52,888-seater stadium and marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club. After years of delays and an investment of £800 million, the Toffees are finally one step closer to leaving Goodison Park.
