Nigerian D’Tigers and Los Angeles Lakers player Gabe Vincent has been elected as Vice President of the NBPA Executive Committee, along with New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns. The two received the honor during All-Star Weekend. This is a significant accomplishment for Vincent as it allows him to help make meaningful changes for players in the future.
Being elected to the NBPA position is a significant sign of respect in the NBA. Vincent now joins the leadership team of the committee, with other key figures including Jaylen Brown, Towns, Garrett Temple and C.J. McCollum. They work with General Manager Andre Iguodala, who is well-liked by fans and players.
Following his election, Vincent shared his thoughts on what the position means to him and what his plans are.
“PA is something I’ve been interested in for a while. “I’ve been attending as many meetings as I could to learn more about our league,” Vincent said after practice on Wednesday. “I want to understand the impact a player can have. When I was given the opportunity to be a part of PA, I was honored to be selected and grateful for the opportunity. I hope we can make some positive changes.”
Vincent has become a key player for the Lakers recently, but even when he’s not playing well, his teammates and others around the league still respect him.
That respect isn’t surprising, given his efforts to learn about the league and make it better for players. Some recent comments from players, like the Luka Doncic move, clearly indicate there are still areas for improvement.
Vincent, along with the NBPA team, will hopefully make those changes happen in the future.
On the court, Vincent has been playing his best basketball of late. One reason for that is that he didn’t lose confidence in his jump shot when he struggled early in the season.
“There’s a lot of noise about this game, about this organization, about this league,” he said. “But I don’t think I’ve done anything more in my life than shoot the ball. That’s the last thing I’d lose trust in.”
