Tyson Fury strongly rejects Usyk’s win, calls it a ‘Christmas present’ from judges. Usyk won by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 116-112 in his favour.
Fury believes he won both this fight and his previous one in May, stating in his post-fight press conference: “I thought I won the fight. I was the aggressive guy, I landed punches to the body and the head. A lot of people, including my promoter Frank Warren, thought I won at least two rounds.”
Despite the decision, Fury remained steadfast, saying: “Until the day I die, I will believe I won this fight. I can’t do anything about the judges’ decision. I just fought with all my heart.”
When asked by a Ukrainian journalist if Usyk’s victory was inspired by the spirit of his war-torn country, Fury replied: “I didn’t feel any spirit. I think Usyk got a Christmas present from those judges.”
Fury also joked about the use of artificial intelligence in the fight, saying: “AI also gave Usyk the win. Absolute nonsense! Let people judge, not computers!”
After the fight, Fury expressed his plans to relax and enjoy Christmas, saying: “I left 12 for this fight. Week. Now I’m going to go home and enjoy my vacation.”
His promoter Frank Warren was also shocked by the judges’ scorecards, saying: “How could Tyson only fight four rounds? That’s impossible. Everyone around me thought he won. Usyk was basically on the defensive.”
Fury’s future in boxing is currently uncertain, but Warren said: “It’s too early to know what will happen next. Tyson is very disappointed and we have to wait and see what decision he makes.”
Despite his frustration, Fury paid tribute to Usyk and said: “This is not Alexander’s fault. Congratulations to him and his team.” Meanwhile, Usyk praised Fury, calling him a “great fighter” and a “great opponent.”
